The Fight Against Parasites

Could parasites be the cause of your underlining health issues? Most people may have parasites in their bodies. It can come from our food, our surroundings, or our environment. A parasite is an organism living inside another organism; it often lives off its host and uses the host’s resources to fuel its life cycle and maintain itself. Parasites vary widely. Around 70 percent are not visible to the naked eye, while others can reach over 30 meters long. Often when we feel sick, or have an illness, our first thought does not go to parasites, but perhaps it should. If not properly taken care of parasites can live within their host for years and cause diseases and damage to the body.

During the Vietnam War, a lot of soldiers died from malaria – a disease caused by parasites. Because of this, the Chinese government sought out to develop an effective anti-malaria drug. Dr. Tu Youyou was on the project to aid in the research. She isolated the active molecule in the tea, artemisinin, which is now one of the lifesaving malaria drugs used by millions. Artemisia Annua, commonly known as sweet wormwood, is a shrub native to China and has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. Ancient Chinese used sweet wormwood as an herbal tea to treat fevers and chills. Since then, research has continued on Artemisia Annua and its derivatives.

Research on Artemisia Annua led to research on cancer. In a 2015 article, Dr. Das reported that Artemisia Annua is effective against 55 cancer cell lines with inhibitory effects against pancreatic cancer, osteosarcoma, lung cancer, colon, melanoma, breast, ovarian, prostate, central nervous system, lymphoma, leukemia, and renal cancer cells. Cancer cells, much like parasites, express high levels of transferrin receptors for internalizing iron at a tremendous rate. In addition, the transport mechanism for iron in cancer cells, called transferrin receptors is massively up-regulated. The more aggressive the tumor, the greater number of transferring receptors. The difference in iron content and iron transport is why Artemisia Annua kill cancer cells selectively while sparing normal cells. Therefore, when cancer cells are present and Artemisia Annua is a part of the treatment, the tumor growth decreases rapidly, and cancer cells die off.

Artemisia Annua is wonderful for fighting off cancer, malaria, and parasites. Although some may think it’s not relevant to them because they don’t have cancer or malaria, artemisia is good for everyone to take for a cleanse. Everyone has parasites in their body, whether we are aware of it or not, and that means that everyone could benefit from a parasite cleanse. We have several Nature’s Sunshine Products that can help with getting rid of parasites, such as Artemisia Combination, Black Walnut, Paw Paw, and Para Cleanse.
